Apple iPhone Duo Unveiled: First Foldable iPhone Brings 7.6-Inch Display, A20 Pro Chip and New AI Features

Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone Duo, marking the company’s entry into the foldable smartphone market. The new device combines the familiar iPhone experience with a large foldable display, powerful A20 Pro performance, an advanced camera system and a redesigned iOS 27 experience.

According to Apple, iPhone Duo is designed to offer the largest display ever seen on an iPhone while remaining compact enough to fit into a pocket when folded.

iPhone Duo Display and Design

The iPhone Duo features two displays. When folded, users get a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR outer display, while opening the device reveals a much larger 7.6-inch inner display.

The inner screen features a nano-texture finish designed to reduce glare and reflections while also helping minimise the visibility of the fold. Both displays support ProMotion, Always-On display technology and up to 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness.

Apple has built the device using Grade 5 titanium, combined with Ceramic Shield protection and a precision-engineered hinge. The iPhone Duo also carries an IP68 rating for splash, water and dust resistance.

The company says the hinge contains more than 100 components and has been engineered to provide a smooth opening and closing experience.

A20 Pro Chip Powers iPhone Duo

At the heart of the iPhone Duo is Apple's new A20 Pro chip, paired with an advanced thermal-management system and a custom-designed vapor chamber.

Apple claims that iPhone Duo can deliver up to 35 percent better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro. The A20 Pro features a 6-core CPU, a 7-core GPU and a dual 16-core Neural Engine designed to handle demanding applications, gaming and on-device AI workloads.

The chip is also built using a 2-nanometer process, while Apple says its Neural Engine delivers twice the compute power for on-device AI models.

48MP Camera System

Photography is another major focus of the iPhone Duo. The phone comes with a 48MP Fusion Main camera and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera.

The main camera offers an optical-quality 2x Telephoto option and sensor-shift optical image stabilisation. Apple has also introduced several camera experiences specifically enabled by the foldable design.

Features include Smart Take, Duo Preview, Dual Capture and Duo FaceTime. Users can also use the outer display to preview selfies taken with the rear cameras.

For video recording, the iPhone Duo supports 4K video recording at 120fps in Dolby Vision on the 48MP Fusion Main camera.

iOS 27 Designed for the Foldable Experience

The iPhone Duo runs iOS 27.1 and introduces a redesigned software experience that adapts to the two-screen form factor.

One of the biggest additions is Split View, which allows users to run two apps side by side on the large inner display. Users can also open two windows of the same app, switch between applications and save pairs of apps for quick access.

Apple has also redesigned elements such as the Dock, Home Screen, Dynamic Island and system controls to make better use of the larger display.

Apple Intelligence and Siri AI

Apple is also bringing its latest AI capabilities to iPhone Duo. The device supports Apple Intelligence and the new Siri AI, which Apple says will offer a more personal and conversational experience.

Siri AI can use personal context, understand information displayed on the screen and help users take actions. Apple is also expanding AI-powered capabilities across photography, Safari and other applications.

Battery and Charging

The iPhone Duo uses a dual-battery architecture, with one high-energy battery on each side of the foldable device.

Apple says the phone can deliver up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner display and up to 44 hours using the outer display. When both displays are used equally, Apple estimates up to 24 hours of usage per charge.

Fast charging can take the device to 50 percent in around 20 minutes, while wireless charging can reach 50 percent in around 30 minutes with a compatible MagSafe or Qi2 charger.

iPhone Duo Price in India and Availability

In India, the iPhone Duo starts at ?2,99,900 for the 256GB model. It will also be available with 512GB, 1TB and 2TBstorage options.

The smartphone comes in two colours: Star White and Night Sky.

Apple says pre-orders in India will begin on October 16, 2026, with the iPhone Duo becoming available from October 23, 2026.
